The Platte Valley Fire Protection District currently operates out of one central fire
station located in the heart of Weld County in Kersey, Colorado.
All apparatus are housed in the station and all
district trainings, meetings, and special events are held here.
The station was built entirely by district volunteers
starting in 1976 and ending with completion in 1978. |

Located on 1st Street between Clark and Campbell Streets,
the station consists of a 1.5 story building with an empty south lot for training evolutions.
The station has five back-in bays, a truck maintenance
pit, a water storage reservoir, a full kitchen, meeting room, regular and watch offices,
and a half story area dedicated for storage as well as search and rescue training.
In addition to having numerous functional uses, the station
was also designed as the city's civil defense shelter. The PVFPD station is self sufficient
with an in-house diesel generator and is constructed of concrete and steel capable of
withstanding natural disasters such as a tornado, as well as the shockwave and fallout from a nuclear strike.

While the station has served the district well over the years, it was not designed for
the modern fire service.
Looking to the future, the station desperately
needs upgrading (at the very least) or replaced completely.
The district Board Of Directors Building Committee
is currently looking into the options available to prepare our station for the demands
of the future. |
Whatever the future brings, the current PVFPD station
will stand tall, representing the heart and soul of a community that banded
together to build a station to house those who protect them.
