At the Platte Valley Fire Protection District, we are committed to keeping our community informed about the department.

Often times citizens do not know what is happening behind the scenes, such as personnel training, equipment and apparatus maintenance, as well as current and future department needs.

A strong relationship between our department and community is essential for a successful future, and we believe that mutual education is the first step we must take.

This is where the Platte Valley Fire Protection District public relations team comes into play.

Our public relations team is responsible for all publicity for the district, including briefing the media during/after emergency incidents, issuing press releases, advertising department-held community activities and trainings, and ultimately keeping the community informed.

There are currently two public information officers who oversee all public relations for the district.

Barry A. Schaefer
Fire Chief

Barry Schaefer has been with Platte Valley Fire since 1998 and currently serves as the district fire chief.

In addition to his experience with Platte Valley Fire, Barry has worked for Weld County Paramedic Services, Greeley Medical Clinic, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

As a public information officer for the district, Barry briefs the media at emergency incidents.

Isaiah Walter
Lieutenant

Isaiah Walter has been with Platte Valley Fire since 2002 and currently serves as Lieutenant, Secretary, and IT specialist.

In addition to his current experience with Platte Valley Fire, Isaiah has worked for Morgan County Ambulance Service and the Antarctic Fire Department at McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

As a public information officer, Isaiah is responsible for briefing the media at emergency incidents, issuing department press releases, and handling all other district public relations.
