The Platte Valley Fire Protection District relies on the dedication of its volunteers to provide professional emergency services.

Without our diverse base of trained and dedicated personnel, we would not be where we are today.

It takes commitment of time, heart, and soul to become a volunteer with Platte Valley Fire.

Our volunteers are not only committed to bettering themselves mentally and physically, but also willing to put their lives on the line at a moment's notice for the safety and benefit of all.

Requirements For Volunteer Firefighter Applicants

  • Minimum of 18 Years of Age (21 to be eligible to hold the position of Engineer).
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • No felony convictions. All other charges/convictions aside from minor traffic offenses are at the sole discretion of the District Board of Directors.
  • Must work well with others in a team environment; be able to articulate clearly; work effectively and maintain a professional attitude/image in stressful situations; maintain confidentiality requirements; and understand and follow district protocols and state laws.
  • Must have the physical capacity and stamina necessary to complete all day-to-day and fireground operations quickly, effectively, and without injury to oneself or others.
  • Ability to commit to trainings/meetings held every Monday night from 1900-2200 hrs.
  • Willingness to attend additional training events held on other days/evenings of the week.
  • Available to respond to all calls from 2100-0500 hrs for one consecutive week while on-call (dates determined by company assignment) and to other calls as availability allows.
  • Certification Requirement - Firefighter: Level 1 - Must obtain within two years of hire and maintain training hours to keep certification current.
  • Certification Requirement - Hazardous Materials: Awareness Level - Must obtain within two years of hire and maintain training hours to keep certification current.
  • Certification Requirement - Emergency Medical First Responder - Must obtain within two years of hire and maintain training hours to keep certification current.

Training Note: - The PVFPD will reimburse personnel for the cost of obtaining the minimum training certifications. Personnel will, however, be required to enter into a contract with the district requiring a minimum amount of time to be served to offset the cost of training.

Application Process

The district accepts applications for the position of Volunteer Probationary Firefighter year-round. Applications can be downloaded online here (requires Microsoft Word).

Applications are reviewed, applicants interviewed, and any available positions filled at the district Business Meeting in January and July.

Applicants are then subjected to a criminal background check and work/character references are contacted.

Applications and background checks are then reviewed and approved or denied by the District Board of Directors at their regular meeting.

Once the applicants have been approved by the Board of Directors, they will be issued gear, including appropriate PPE and paging equipment.

Please Note: Special consideration is not given to those who already hold the minimum certification requirements. Open positions are only filled in January and July.

To apply, please obtain an application online, and send it to or drop it off at the fire station.
